Youth Club
|
Aims |
NLCA is the ONLY Chinese
association in the whole of North London. Barnet has the largest Chinese
community in London. So this Chinese youth club would be the only be one in
the whole of North London. Our aims are to:
-
Give the youth something to
do; positive and healthy activities
-
Keep children out of trouble.
(i.e. drugs, alcohol, smoking, truancy etc.)
-
Give them the opportunity to
choose how to lead their lives by promoting “positive lifestyles”
-
Improve relationships with
parents and other family members
-
Promote Chinese culture and
language
-
Enable youth to make new
friends
-
Teach them new skills
-
Educate them on youth-related
issues
-
Encourage them to recognise
their Chinese identity and heritage
-
Provide an environment for youth to speak more Chinese with fellow Chinese
friends

Future Plans |
What are
we planning to do in the future? What kind of other activities will we be
organising?
-
Sport activities- to
encourage a healthy lifestyle and to promote the advantages of regular
exercise. Also team sports will highlight the importance of unity and
co-operation, which is necessary for success in the “real world”.
-
Karaoke competitions-
promotes Chinese language and modern Chinese culture
-
Workshops- Anything that
Committee members can teach (so this does not require funding) for
example, CV building classes, assistance in filling in UCAS forms, help in
how to choose a suitable University, revision tips etc.
-
Educational Classes- Classes
which promote Chinese culture, i.e. Lion Dancing, Kung Fu, Chinese Arts
and Crafts.
-
Drop in Sessions- Young
people can talk to a “friend” –a responsible older mentor about problems
with school, family, friends, life in general.
-
Meeting up place- Somewhere
that will provide a healthy environment for youth to pass time. They can
just sit and chat to friends, get help on homework etc. This gives youth a
“healthy” alternative to the underage drinking/smoking scenario that many
youth go through because of boredom and having nothing to do after
school/college.
Once we
have a well-established group, we will be in the position to talk to the
government about funding for further projects, which we cannot organise at
the present because of lack of funding. |
If you and your friends are
interested to join youth club, please call us on 020 8205 7908 or email at
youth@nlca.org.uk for further
information.
